About The Position

This position will assist and support scientific investigation to study innate immune responses in vivo and in vitro as directed in the Department of Microbial Infection and Immunity. The role involves independently conducting assigned experiments, performing a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques and procedures, and managing laboratory operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with a Major in biological sciences.
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience required.
  • Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research is required.
  • Experience in a biological/health research capacity is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques and procedures desired.
  • Experience with animal handling and husbandry desired.

Responsibilities

  • Independently conducts assigned experiments.
  • Performs a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques and procedures including PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis, assays, cell cultures, and Western analysis.
  • Sorts and processes tissue and blood samples.
  • Tests and evaluates current procedures.
  • Performs routine experimental procedures on laboratory animals including surgical procedures and/or administration of drugs, and harvesting of tissues.
  • Oversees care of laboratory animals.
  • Records, consolidates and assists with analysis of research results.
  • Assists in evaluating validity of data obtained from experimental procedures.
  • Summarizes data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts.
  • Prepares research progress reports.
  • Assists principal investigator with the preparation of publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts.
  • Conducts library research on requested topics through researching current literature.
  • Oversees and maintains accurate records of laboratory activities.
  • Assists with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation.
  • Sets up and operates laboratory equipment.
  • Monitors research supply, including specimens, inventory and initiates procurement requests as needed.
