About The Position

The Department of Microbial Infection & Immunity at The Ohio State University is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar to conduct research studying the mechanisms controlling plasma membrane repair and cell death pathways during infection and inflammation. This role involves designing, conducting, and evaluating research experiments, utilizing advanced techniques in cellular biology, molecular biology, quantitative fluorescence microscopy, live-cell imaging, and flow cytometry. The scholar will also be responsible for developing new laboratory methods, analyzing and interpreting data, writing research papers for publication, and presenting findings at scientific meetings. Additionally, the position involves assisting the Principal Investigator (PI) with grant proposals and participating in various lab and departmental activities, including training other lab members.

Requirements

  • MD, PhD, or MD/PhD required.
  • Ability to interact in a highly multidisciplinary environment.
  • Experience with cellular biology, molecular biology, quantitative fluorescence microscopy, live-cell imaging, and flow cytometry research techniques and procedures desired.
  • Experience with animal handling and husbandry desired.
  • Requires successful completion of a background check.
  • Qualified candidates may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, conducts, and evaluates research experiments.

  • Develops, adopts and implements new laboratory methods.

  • Performs scientific literature searches.
  • Presents research findings at local, national, or international scientific meetings.
  • Applies for postdoctoral fellowships.
  • Assists PI with writing and submitting grant proposals to obtain extramural funding in support of research.
  • Participates in journal clubs, laboratory meetings, and Department seminars and activities.
  • Assists with training of other lab members.
