About The Position

This is a full-time research assistant position in the Vanderbilt Psychiatric Neuromodulation Lab, focusing on neuromodulation interventions for substance use and psychotic disorders. The role involves recruiting research subjects, assisting investigators with data collection and analysis, and specifically working on a randomized controlled trial of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) for nicotine dependence in individuals with schizophrenia and healthy controls. The position requires a strong interest in working with individuals experiencing psychosis and nicotine dependence, excellent organizational and data management skills, and a desire to contribute to research in mental health, interventional psychiatry, neuromodulation, psychosis, addiction, and clinical trials. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, capable of working independently, and possesses strong interpersonal skills, organization, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities. This role is well-suited for individuals interested in pursuing advanced degrees in neuroscience, psychology, or related fields.

Responsibilities

  • Recruiting research participants into research studies (independently or in conjunction with other clinical research staff)
  • Assessing the participant’s eligibility for research studies
  • Discussing informed consent with research subjects
  • Scheduling research study visits
  • Conducting clinical interviews of psychiatric symptoms and substance use
  • Administering cognitive tests
  • Carrying out neuroimaging study protocols
  • Administering rTMS with supervision
  • Using PsychoPy, EPrime, and Matlab to collect and analyze data
  • Checking and maintaining data quality
  • Assisting with the management of Institutional Review Board approvals
  • Database management
  • Analysis of behavioral and brain imaging data
  • Assisting with manuscript preparation
