PHX Remote Pilot Operator

SAIC•Phoenix, AZ
•Onsite

About The Position

SAIC is seeking part-time Remote Pilot Operator (RPO) candidates to join its Controller Training Solutions (CTS) team at the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport Air Traffic Control Tower (PHX), supporting Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) air traffic controller training. This is not a UAS, UAV, RPV, or drone pilot position. The RPO acts as pilots and other air traffic controllers in an air traffic controller training simulator. Using a simulated radar display and voice communication system, the RPO simulates pilot actions and communications with remote ATC facilities during medium- and high-fidelity training exercises. RPOs receive student voice commands, enter the appropriate information into the automated system to simulate pilot actions, interpret displayed information using ATC terminology, and respond to students through the voice communication system using proper phraseology. Candidates must complete classroom certification, including passing a test on airspace and procedures, and lab certification, demonstrating performance as an RPO on all positions. The role supports the FAA’s training of new and current air traffic control specialists. SAIC provides training and related support services for different types and levels of ATC facilities.
