About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians shifts in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role provides flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts, and weekday and weekend hours. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift and may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, with no agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, while trained staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Veterinarians receive a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, and a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgeries, emergency care, or illness care. Locations are primarily inside Petco stores, with some in mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Their equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and anesthesia monitoring. Licensed, trained hospital staff support care, and there are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
- State veterinary license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all functions required for assigned shifts, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at Vetco Total Care full-service hospitals.
- Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
- Comply with all local, state, and federal mandates.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care during selected relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- At vaccination clinics, perform basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
- At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
- Perform blood draws and administer vaccines as required by the shift.
