About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians the opportunity to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role provides flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts, and a variety of weekday and weekend hours. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift and may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts without agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports veterinarians leaving on time, while trained staff handles operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency care, or illness care. Locations are primarily inside Petco stores, with some in mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. These hospitals have digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and equipped surgery suites. Hospital staff are licensed and trained, and there are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts. Relief veterinarians also receive a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, plus a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
• State veterinary license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Ability to provide professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Perform shift functions permitted by applicable state-specific licensing, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• Comply with local, state, and federal mandates.
