About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians opportunities to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role provides flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts, and weekday and weekend shifts available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and do not pay agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and support on-time departures, while trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency care, or illness care. Most are located inside Petco stores, with some operating from mobile vans.

Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgery, and dental procedures. They are equipped with digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and anesthesia monitoring. Hospital staff are licensed and trained, and the hospitals do not require overnight or emergency on-call shifts. The role includes access to a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, as well as a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
• State veterinary license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all functions required during the shift, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during assigned relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Perform blood draws and administer vaccines as appropriate to the shift and state-specific licensing.
• Comply with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
