About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services is hiring relief veterinarians to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Relief veterinarians can select shifts through flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts required. Weekday and weekend shifts are available, and veterinarians set their own rate for each shift. Veterinarians may continue their practice activities outside Petco shifts, with no agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports veterinarians leaving on time. Trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgery, and dental procedures. These hospitals have digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and equipped surgery suites. No overnight or emergency on-call shifts are required. Petco provides a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements. Relief veterinarians also receive a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Vetco clinics and hospitals provide veterinary care in 48 states.

Requirements

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including the ability to perform blood draws and administer vaccines.
DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
Perform shift functions permitted by applicable state licensing, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
Provide services appropriate to the setting, which may include wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, microchip placement, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
