About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, while trained staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Relief veterinarians can use flexible online scheduling, choose weekday or weekend shifts, set their own rate for each shift, and continue practice activities outside Petco shifts. There is no minimum or maximum number of shifts, and no agency fees. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Locations are primarily inside Petco stores, with some in mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals offer preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospitals have digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and equipped surgery suites with heated hydraulic surgery tables and full anesthesia monitoring. Hospital staff are licensed and trained, and relief shifts do not involve overnight or emergency on-call duties. Petco provides a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, and a 15% discount on Petco products and services.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including the ability to perform blood draws and administer vaccines.
- DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- Ability to provide professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
- Comply with all local, state, and federal mandates.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care during selected relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- At vaccination clinics, perform basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
- At Vetco Total Care hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
