About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services is hiring a relief veterinarian to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and/or Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Relief veterinarians can use flexible online scheduling, choose shifts that fit their lifestyle, and set their own rate for each shift. There is no minimum or maximum number of shifts, weekday and weekend hours are available, and veterinarians may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts without agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and is designed to allow veterinarians to leave on time. Trained, experienced staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on care. Petco provides a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, plus a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Most are located inside Petco stores, with some operating from advanced mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and full anesthesia monitoring. Licensed and trained hospital staff support care delivery. No overnight or emergency on-call shifts are required.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- Ability to provide professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
- Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics and/or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
- At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
- Comply with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
