About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Relief veterinarians can use flexible online scheduling to select shifts that fit their availability, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts required and weekday and weekend hours available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and do not pay agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and support on-time departures, while trained staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency care, or illness care. Most are located within Petco stores, with some operating from mobile vans. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospital equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and fully equipped surgery suites. Hospital shifts do not involve overnight or emergency on-call work. Relief veterinarians receive clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements through a monthly newsletter, and a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Requirements

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
State veterinary license in good standing.
Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.

Responsibilities

Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
At full-service hospitals, provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures as appropriate.
Meet applicable licensing and regulatory requirements for all functions performed during shifts.
