About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians shifts in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role provides flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts, and weekday and weekend hours. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and pay no agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, while trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on care. Relief veterinarians receive monthly updates about clinic news, policies, and products, and a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency care, or illness care. Locations are primarily inside Petco stores, with some in mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospitals have digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and equipped surgery suites. Hospital staff are licensed and trained, and shifts do not involve overnight or emergency on-call work.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
- State veterinary license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
- At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
- Comply with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
