About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Veterinarians can use flexible online scheduling to select shifts that suit their availability; there is no minimum or maximum shift requirement, and weekday and weekend hours are available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift and may continue their practice activities outside Petco shifts, with no agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports on-time departures, while trained staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Petco provides a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, as well as a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Most are located in Petco stores, with some operating from mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospital facilities include digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic surgery tables and full anesthesia monitoring. Hospital staff are licensed and trained, and there are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts. The role requires a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing, appropriate state-specific licensing for all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration, and professional liability insurance with a license defense policy. DEA registration in good standing is required for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals. Candidates must comply with applicable local, state, and federal mandates. Vetco Clinics and Vetco Total Care hospitals provide access to veterinary care in 48 states.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.

Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics and/or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
- At Vetco Total Care hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
- Perform shift functions permitted by applicable state-specific licenses, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
