About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians the opportunity to work at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Relief veterinarians can use flexible online scheduling to choose weekday and weekend shifts that suit their lifestyle. There is no minimum or maximum shift requirement, veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, and they may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts without agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports veterinarians leaving on time. Trained staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Petco provides a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, plus a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Locations are primarily inside Petco stores, with some in mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospitals have digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and equipped surgery suites. There are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
- Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals, depending on the shift.
- At Vaccination Clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
- At Vetco Total Care hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
- Perform shift functions in accordance with applicable state-specific licensing and local, state, and federal requirements.
