About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians opportunities to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role offers flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts, and weekday and weekend shifts available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, can continue practicing outside their Petco shifts, and do not pay agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, while trained staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Relief veterinarians receive a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, as well as a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Clinics are primarily located in Petco stores, with some operating in mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospital equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and fully equipped surgery suites. Hospital relief shifts do not involve overnight or emergency on-call work.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
- State veterinary license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
- Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- Perform shift functions permitted by applicable state licensing, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
- At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
- Comply with all local, state, and federal mandates.
