About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services is hiring a relief veterinarian to work in either Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Relief veterinarians can choose shifts through flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum shift requirement. Weekday and weekend shifts are available, and veterinarians set their own rate for each shift. Veterinarians may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, with no agency fees.

The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports veterinarians leaving on time. Trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Petco provides a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, plus a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Most are located inside Petco stores, with some operating from advanced mobile van units.

Vetco Total Care hospitals provide a full range of services, including preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Equipment may include digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and fully equipped surgery suites with heated hydraulic surgery tables and full anesthesia monitoring. Hospital shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call work.

Colorado state bid rates average $89.00–$112.00 per hour. Shift rates may vary based on clinic location and shift duration.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At Vaccination Clinics, perform basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At Vetco Total Care hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Perform shift functions in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
