About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians the opportunity to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The position allows veterinarians to choose shifts through flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum shift requirement and a range of weekday and weekend hours. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and do not pay agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports leaving on time. Trained, experienced staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospital equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and fully equipped surgery suites. Hospital relief shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call duties. Petco also provides a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, and a 15% discount on Petco products and services.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and a state license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- A DEA registration in good standing is required for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- Ability to provide professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
- Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- At vaccination clinics, perform basic wellness checks, administer vaccinations, conduct heartworm testing, and place microchips.
- At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
- Comply with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
