About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians the opportunity to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Relief veterinarians can use flexible online scheduling to choose shifts that suit their lifestyle. There is no minimum or maximum number of required shifts, and weekday and weekend hours are available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and are not charged agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports timely departures. Trained, experienced staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Petco provides monthly updates about clinic news, policies, and products, and offers a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency care, or illness care. Most are located in Petco stores, with some operating from advanced mobile vans. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Their equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and full anesthesia monitoring. Hospital relief shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call shifts. Colorado state bid rates average $89.00–$112.00 per hour. Shift rates may vary by clinic location and shift duration.
Requirements
- Hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
- Have appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all functions of the shift, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- Hold a DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- Provide professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
- Comply with all local, state, and federal mandates.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- At vaccination clinics, perform basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
- At Vetco Total Care hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
- Comply with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
