About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services is seeking relief veterinarians to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Relief veterinarians can choose shifts through flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts required. Weekday and weekend hours are available, and veterinarians may set their own rate for each shift. They may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, with no agency fees.

The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports veterinarians leaving on time. Trained, experienced staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on care. Petco shares clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements through a monthly newsletter, and offers a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgeries, emergency care, or illness care. Most are located in Petco stores, with some operating from advanced mobile van units.

Vetco Total Care hospitals provide full-service veterinary care, including preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospitals are equipped with digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and full anesthesia monitoring. Licensed and trained hospital staff support care delivery. Relief shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call duties.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At vaccination clinics, perform basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At Vetco Total Care hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Perform shift functions in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal requirements.
