About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services is hiring a relief veterinarian to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and/or Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role offers flexible online scheduling, with weekday and weekend shifts and no minimum or maximum shift requirement. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift and may continue practicing outside their Petco shifts, with no agency fees.

The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports veterinarians leaving on time. Trained staff handle operational tasks so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Full-service hospitals have no overnight or emergency on-call shifts.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including the ability to perform blood draws and administer vaccines.
• DEA registration in good standing is required for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Ability to provide professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during scheduled relief shifts.
• At Vetco Vaccination Clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At Vetco Total Care hospitals, provide services including preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures, as appropriate to the shift.
