About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Veterinarians can use flexible online scheduling to select shifts that suit their lifestyle, with no minimum or maximum shift requirement and weekday and weekend hours available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and do not pay agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and support on-time departures, while trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on care. Petco provides a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, as well as a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgeries, emergency care, or illness care. Most are located within Petco stores, with some operating in advanced mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospital equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and full anesthesia monitoring. Licensed and trained hospital staff support care standards, and there are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
- State veterinary license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
- Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
- A DEA registration in good standing is required for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary services during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics and/or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
- At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
- Perform shift functions in compliance with applicable state-specific licensing and local, state, and federal mandates.
