About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services relief veterinarians may work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role offers flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts and weekday and weekend hours available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and do not pay agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, and trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on care. Petco shares clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements through a monthly newsletter. Relief veterinarians receive a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency care, or illness care. Most are located inside Petco stores, with some operating from mobile van units.

Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and fully equipped surgery suites. Hospital shifts do not involve overnight or emergency on-call duties.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at Vetco Total Care full-service hospitals.
• Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Perform shift functions in accordance with applicable state-specific licensing and local, state, and federal mandates.
