About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians opportunities to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role provides flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum shift requirement and weekday and weekend shifts available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and do not pay agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports veterinarians leaving on time. Trained staff handle clinic and hospital operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. These hospitals have digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and equipped surgery suites. There are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts. Veterinarians receive monthly updates on clinic news, policies, and products, as well as a 15% discount on Petco products and services.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- Ability to provide professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
- Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
- A DEA registration in good standing is required for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
- At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
- Perform shift functions in accordance with applicable state licensing requirements, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- Comply with local, state, and federal mandates.
