About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians shifts in two settings: Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role provides flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum shift requirements and weekday and weekend hours available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practicing outside Petco shifts, and pay no agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, while trained staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements are shared through a monthly newsletter. Veterinarians receive a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Most are located inside Petco stores, with some operating from mobile van units.

Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and full anesthesia monitoring. These hospitals have licensed and trained staff and do not require overnight or emergency on-call shifts.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• A DEA registration in good standing is required for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Ability to provide Professional Liability Insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At Vaccination Clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At Total Care hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Meet the applicable requirements for the functions performed during each shift.
