Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians work in two settings: Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Veterinarians can use flexible online scheduling to select shifts that fit their lifestyle; there is no minimum or maximum number of shifts, and weekday and weekend hours are available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and pay no agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports leaving on time. Trained, experienced staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Petco provides monthly updates on clinic news, policies, and products, and offers a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgeries, emergency care, or illness care. Most are located inside Petco stores, with some operating from mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospital equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic surgery tables and full anesthesia monitoring. Hospital staff are licensed and trained, and these hospitals do not have overnight or emergency on-call shifts. New Jersey state bid rates average $136–$170 per hour. Shift rates may vary according to clinic location and selected shift duration.
