About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians the opportunity to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Veterinarians can use flexible online scheduling to choose shifts that suit their lifestyle, with no minimum or maximum shift requirement and weekday and weekend hours available. They set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and pay no agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports veterinarians leaving on time. Trained, experienced staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Petco provides a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, as well as a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Most are located inside Petco stores, with some operating from advanced mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospital equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and full anesthesia monitoring. There are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts. Colorado state bid rates average $89.00–$112.00 per hour. Shift rates may vary based on clinic location and selected shift duration.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at Vetco Total Care full-service hospitals.
- Ability to provide Professional Liability Insurance and a license defense policy.
- Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary services during selected relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
- At full-service hospitals, provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures, as appropriate to the shift.
- Perform shift functions in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
