About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians flexible work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Online scheduling lets veterinarians choose shifts that fit their lifestyle, with no minimum or maximum shift requirements and weekday and weekend hours available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and pay no agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and support on-time departures. Trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Petco provides monthly updates on clinic news, policies, and products, and offers a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Most are located inside Petco stores, with some operating from mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospital equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and full anesthesia monitoring. Hospital shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call duties.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
- State veterinary license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at Vetco Total Care full-service hospitals.
- Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
- Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
- At full-service hospitals, provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures as appropriate to the shift.
- Perform shift functions requiring state-specific authorization, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- Comply with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
