About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Flexible online scheduling lets veterinarians select shifts that suit their lifestyle, with no minimum or maximum shift requirement and weekday and weekend availability. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift and may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, with no agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and support timely departures, while trained staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Relief veterinarians receive monthly clinic updates and a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. These clinics are primarily located in Petco stores, with some operating from mobile vans. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospital equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and fully equipped surgery suites. Hospital staff are licensed and trained, and there are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts.

Colorado state bid rates average $89.00–$112.00 per hour. Shift rates may vary by clinic location and shift duration.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during selected shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At full-service hospitals, provide care that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
