About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services is seeking a relief veterinarian to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and/or Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role offers flexible online scheduling, no minimum or maximum shift requirement, and weekday and weekend shift options. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift and may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts without agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, and trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgery, and dental procedures. These hospitals have digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and anesthesia monitoring. Hospital shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call duties. Colorado state bid rates average $89.00–$112.00 per hour. Shift rates may vary by clinic location and shift duration.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and a state license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including the ability to perform blood draws and administer vaccines.
- DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at Vetco Total Care full-service hospitals.
- Professional Liability Insurance and a license defense policy.
- Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care during selected relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics and/or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- At vaccination clinics, perform basic wellness checks, administer vaccinations, conduct heartworm testing, and place microchips, as appropriate to the shift.
- At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
- Perform blood draws and administer vaccines as required for assigned shift functions.
- Comply with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
