About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services is hiring relief veterinarians to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Relief veterinarians can use flexible online scheduling to choose shifts, with no minimum or maximum shift requirement and weekday and weekend hours available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practicing outside Petco shifts, and pay no agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, and trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Petco provides monthly updates about clinic news, policies, and products, and veterinarians receive a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency care, or illness care. Most are located in Petco stores, with some operating from mobile van units.

Vetco Total Care hospitals offer preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Facilities include digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and equipped surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and anesthesia monitoring. Hospital staff are licensed and trained, and shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call duties.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and a state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
• Comply with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics and/or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At vaccination clinics, perform basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At Vetco Total Care hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Perform shift functions in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
