About The Position

Genesis Marine is a company that provides safe, reliable, and efficient marine transportation services, primarily serving refineries and storage terminals along the Gulf Coast, East Coast, Canada, Great Lakes, Intracoastal Canal, and western river systems of the United States. The company owns and operates two fleets, inland and offshore, with approximately 130 vessels. Genesis Marine is known for its state-of-the-art barges and highly skilled mariners, making it a leading carrier of inland, hot-oil cargoes. The inland fleet includes about 82 barges and 33 push-boats, while the offshore fleet consists of nine boats and nine barges, plus one ocean-going tanker. The company emphasizes a safe and competitive service, adhering to strict operating procedures that exceed customer and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

Valid Driver’s License.
U.S. Coast Guard license as Master Operator, uninspected towing vessels, endorsed for service on inland waters.
Valid personal Radio License issued by FCC.
Radar Observer Certificate.
Must attend an Advanced Pilot Management (APM) course every 5 years.

Responsibilities

Supervising safe and efficient operation and performance of his crew, vessel and tow.
Ensuring that the equipment is kept neat, clean and in good working order.
Ensuring that Company policies, rules and regulations are followed.
Reporting to the Port Captain any and all violations of Company policy or violations of federal, state or local laws.
Responsible for routine maintenance and operation of all machinery aboard the vessel and tow and ensure that it is in good operating condition.
Ensuring that the tankermen check the barge pump engines for fuel, oil water and antifreeze.
Advising the office of anticipated crew shortages or overages immediately so as to enable the office to make timely manning adjustments among the fleet.
Instructing every crewmember to be respectful and professional towards all people at fleets, docks, locks etc.
Setting the watch standing schedule for the wheelhouse and crew, ensuring that all crewmembers work according to watch standing regulations.
Posting station bills and muster cards and ensuring that all crewmembers are familiar with their respective stations and duties in case of an emergency.
Completing all required training, disciplinary action forms, evaluations and other personnel-related documentation.
Ensuring that all injuries, or illnesses of crewmembers occurring on vessel be reported.
Responsible for setting the safety culture on the vessel and ensuring all members comply with the Company Safety Program and all training requirements.
Conducting monthly drills and safety meetings in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Responsible for reporting all accidents and spills on any Company tow or boat, other vessels or tows, fixed objects such as buoys, or damage which results in cargo loss, contamination, spills or pollution.
