About The Position

The Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Use (BADU) works to close gaps and reduce overall morbidity and mortality related to alcohol and substance use among New Yorkers. BADUPCT develops, implements, and evaluates interventions and prevention strategies through contracting of treatment, recovery and support services; policy analysis and development; epidemiology and surveillance; dissemination of treatment and management guidelines; harm reduction initiatives; public and provider outreach and education; and community involvement and interagency collaboration. The Bureau amplifies the voices of those most impacted and focuses on inequitable structural, social, service, and communication factors that drive disparities.

Requirements

  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.
  • A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above.
  • All candidates must have at least a master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in "2" above.
  • Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in "1" and "2" above.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience practicing public health and working across systems to further a public health approach to alcohol and other drug use
  • Experience in working with programs serving people who use drugs, including those using harm reduction approaches
  • Experience in managing a budget and/or contracts
  • Experience in program monitoring and evaluation
  • Experience with quantitative data, including the ability to read, interpret and synthesize epidemiologic and other scientific research literature for broad audiences
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Possess exceptional interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with outstanding organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint and statistical software such as SAS.

Responsibilities

  • Provide program operations, evaluation and research support to the program’s growing part-time and full-time staff.
  • Utilize automated systems and tools to support program operations, research and data analysis.
  • Aid in supporting data entry, data quality improvement, and database maintenance for the program data systems.
  • Assist with data requests to support program implementation, inform policy, troubleshoot issues, and other program needs.
  • Participate in the coordination, planning and implementation of the Relay program.
  • Aid in the recruitment, screening, hiring and onboarding of Relay staff.
  • Assist in the development of protocols, program materials, and presentations for program activities.
  • Maintain records and write summary reports related to program implementation.
  • Coordinate monthly calls with ED leadership to discuss program implementation and trends within each collaborating ED.
  • Assist with program contracting, invoicing and budget support.
  • Support procurement and distribution tracking of program resources.
  • Support the planning and implementation of activities and events consistent with the Bureau's mission.
