About The Position

ADAC (Alternative Drug and Alcohol Counseling), soon to be a program of Potomac Community Services, focuses on an objective approach to treating addiction and substance abuse. They provide quality and supportive services to individuals, families, and significant others, treating each person with individual needs and aiming for abstinence as the main goal of treatment. The Alcohol and Drug Trainee (ADT) provides supervised support in delivering substance use disorder (SUD) services, including screening, assessment support, case management, psychoeducation, and coordination of care. This position is for individuals pursuing certification or licensure in alcohol and drug counseling, operating under the direct supervision of a licensed clinician in accordance with Maryland state regulations. The ADT is crucial in engaging individuals and families, supporting recovery-oriented services, and linking clients to community resources.

Requirements

  • Registered as an Alcohol and Drug Trainee (ADT) in the State of Maryland (or eligible to register)
  • Strong interest in substance use disorder treatment and recovery services

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field
  • Experience working in behavioral health, substance use treatment, or human services
  • Knowledge of harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and recovery-oriented practices
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

Responsibilities

  • Assist in conducting screenings and intake assessments for substance use and co-occurring disorders
  • Provide psychoeducation to individuals and families on substance use, recovery, and relapse prevention
  • Support implementation of treatment plans under supervision
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate group sessions (as appropriate and supervised)
  • Provide case management and care coordination services
  • Link clients to community resources including treatment programs, housing, employment, and healthcare
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (providers, probation, DSS, schools, etc.)
  • Assist clients in navigating systems of care
  • Complete timely and accurate documentation in accordance with COMAR and agency policies
  • Maintain client records in electronic health record (EHR) systems
  • Participate in utilization review and quality assurance processes
  • Participate in required supervision toward certification/licensure
  • Complete required training hours and continuing education
  • Adhere to ethical standards and scope of practice under supervision
