About The Position

ADAC (Alternative Drug and Alcohol Counseling), soon to be under new management as a program of Potomac Community Services, focuses on an objective approach to treating addiction and substance abuse. The program provides quality and supportive services to individuals, families, and significant others, recognizing that each person has unique issues, patterns, concerns, viewpoints, and ideas. While the main goal of treatment is abstinence, it acknowledges that this may not always align with the patient's initial philosophy but is deemed necessary for success. The Alcohol and Drug Trainee (ADT) position offers supervised support in delivering substance use disorder (SUD) services, including screening, assessment support, case management, psychoeducation, and care coordination. This role is specifically designed for individuals pursuing certification or licensure in alcohol and drug counseling and operates under the direct supervision of a licensed clinician, adhering to Maryland state regulations. The ADT is crucial in engaging individuals and families, supporting recovery-oriented services, and facilitating connections to community resources.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field (preferred)
Registered as an Alcohol and Drug Trainee (ADT) in the State of Maryland (or eligible to register)
Strong interest in substance use disorder treatment and recovery services
Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
Strong interpersonal and engagement skills
Ability to build rapport with individuals and families
Organizational and documentation skills
Cultural humility and trauma-informed approach
Team collaboration

Nice To Haves

Experience working in behavioral health, substance use treatment, or human services
Knowledge of harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and recovery-oriented practices
Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

Responsibilities

Assist in conducting screenings and intake assessments for substance use and co-occurring disorders
Provide psychoeducation to individuals and families on substance use, recovery, and relapse prevention
Support implementation of treatment plans under supervision
Facilitate or co-facilitate group sessions (as appropriate and supervised)
Provide case management and care coordination services
Link clients to community resources including treatment programs, housing, employment, and healthcare
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (providers, probation, DSS, schools, etc.)
Assist clients in navigating systems of care
Complete timely and accurate documentation in accordance with COMAR and agency policies
Maintain client records in electronic health record (EHR) systems
Participate in utilization review and quality assurance processes
Participate in required supervision toward certification/licensure
Complete required training hours and continuing education
Adhere to ethical standards and scope of practice under supervision
