About The Position
ADAC (Alternative Drug and Alcohol Counseling), soon to be under new management as a program of Potomac Community Services, prides itself on understanding the ongoing process of addiction and substance abuse, taking an objective approach to patient treatment. ADAC has developed a drug and alcohol program that provides quality and supportive services to individuals, families, and significant others who need to understand substance abuse. Every person is treated as an individual with unique needs, issues, patterns, concerns, viewpoints, or ideas. The main goal of treatment is abstinence. The Alcohol and Drug Trainee (ADT) provides supervised support in the delivery of substance use disorder (SUD) services, including screening, assessment support, case management, psychoeducation, and coordination of care. This position is designed for individuals working toward certification or licensure in alcohol and drug counseling and operates under the direct supervision of a licensed clinician in accordance with Maryland state regulations. The ADT plays a key role in engaging individuals and families, supporting recovery-oriented services, and assisting with linkage to community resources.
Requirements
- Registered as an Alcohol and Drug Trainee (ADT) in the State of Maryland (or eligible to register)
- Strong interest in substance use disorder treatment and recovery services
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
- Strong interpersonal and engagement skills
- Ability to build rapport with individuals and families
- Organizational and documentation skills
- Cultural humility and trauma-informed approach
- Team collaboration
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field
- Experience working in behavioral health, substance use treatment, or human services
- Knowledge of harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and recovery-oriented practices
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
Responsibilities
- Assist in conducting screenings and intake assessments for substance use and co-occurring disorders
- Provide psychoeducation to individuals and families on substance use, recovery, and relapse prevention
- Support implementation of treatment plans under supervision
- Facilitate or co-facilitate group sessions (as appropriate and supervised)
- Provide case management and care coordination services
- Link clients to community resources including treatment programs, housing, employment, and healthcare
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (providers, probation, DSS, schools, etc.)
- Assist clients in navigating systems of care
- Complete timely and accurate documentation in accordance with COMAR and agency policies
- Maintain client records in electronic health record (EHR) systems
- Participate in utilization review and quality assurance processes
- Participate in required supervision toward certification/licensure
- Complete required training hours and continuing education
- Adhere to ethical standards and scope of practice under supervision
