About The Position

Integrated Care Solutions - NRIO, a division of Bayshore HealthCare, offers community-minded, progressive brain injury rehabilitation to empower individuals and enhance their quality of life. They utilize a team of diverse healthcare professionals to customize treatment programs in various environments, including 24-hour residential treatment, supported living, community programs, and therapeutic day programs. The company employs a person-and family-centered care (PFCC) approach, emphasizing family involvement in health care planning and decision-making, providing respectful, compassionate, culturally safe, and responsive care. They are currently seeking part-time Rehabilitation Therapists in Mississauga, ON, to provide supervision, personal care, and rehab support to individuals with acquired brain injuries (ABIs). The role is based out of their Mississauga residence, which offers a home-like environment to foster skill development for community living. This position also involves caring for individuals in the Complex Care Program who require total-care support due to ongoing medical issues and intensive rehabilitation needs, making them dependent on RTs for daily living aspects. Shifts may include a combination of full-duty shifts and sleep-shifts, with a reduced wage for sleep-shifts where the RT is available on-site for support.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in social sciences or health care related studies
  • G driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract
  • Access to a vehicle and the proper insurance to transport clients in own vehicle
  • Ability to work flexible hours (evenings, weekends, overnights, occasional holidays) and commit to ongoing casual employment
  • Willingness and ability to perform: personal care tasks, medication assistance, assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), administrative tasks, light cleaning, advocacy, and clinical therapy implementation
  • Enjoy dealing with people and working in a fast-paced customer service environment
  • Strong communication (oral and written) skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Ability to perform bending, stretching and lifting while assisting clients
  • Ability to be organized and able to complete tasks within allocated time frames
  • Demonstrated knowledge of personal computers and proficiency with secure email
  • Commitment to continual learning, upgrading and enhancing skills

Nice To Haves

  • PSW certification and experience
  • Knowledge and/or experience working with individuals with mental health issues, dual diagnoses, behavioural issues, chronic pain, and addictions
  • Conflict resolution skills and ability to work with clients and team members toward solutions; addressing issues such as verbal aggression, physical and environmental aggression, elopement, socially and sexually inappropriate behaviours
  • Ability to problem-solve/handle difficult situations in an objective consistent manner
  • Ability to work independently and effectively collaborate with a team
  • Ability to be self-directed and take direction

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision, personal care, and rehab support to individuals with acquired brain injuries (ABIs)
  • Care for individuals in the Complex Care Program who require total-care support due to ongoing medical issues, in addition to intensive rehabilitation needs
  • Work with individuals with acquired brain injuries while assisting them with increasing levels of independence through individualized rehabilitation programs (responsible for up to 5 clients at a particular time)
  • Perform personal care (e.g. bed-baths, dressing, oral care) medication management, and various forms of transfer tasks
  • Utilize appropriate Crisis and Behavioural Management strategies
  • Complete documentation following company and provincial guidelines
  • Follow the designed rehabilitation program as accurately as possible
  • Collect required clinical data through documentation, tracking, etc.
  • Complete research to assist with enhancing client programs
  • Perform other clinical and administrative duties as assigned
  • Perform housekeeping duties as assigned
