The Therapy Technician assists rehabilitation nurses and therapists with rehabilitation treatment and patient care according to hospital, state, professional and federal regulations and guidelines. This role is for a POOL position in an acute rehabilitation hospital setting. Patients typically spend an average of 2-4 weeks in the hospital and present with a wide variety of diagnoses including stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, various neurological disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, amputation, joint replacement, fractures, multiple trauma, cardiac conditions, and pulmonary conditions. Approximately 80% of patients are discharged directly home. The hospital utilizes evidence-based practice guidelines and clinical outcomes to assess and improve treatment interventions and programs, participating in a national outcomes database for benchmarking and analysis. Standard and advanced therapy technologies may be used, such as Auto Ambulators, Bioness, Interactive Metronome, Hand Mentor, SmartStep, Anodyne, Wii, and CAPs, depending on the hospital location. The treatment team includes full-time therapists, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, and medical staff.
