About The Position

This position is for a Regular Part-Time Professor to teach TRA5133 - Writing better, a course focused on refining writing style through communication principles and techniques in traditional and digital contexts. The course aims to adapt writing for various audiences and purposes, eliminate language interference, and produce idiomatic texts. The course will be offered in person and is taught in English, with occasional French instruction. The academic year runs from September 1 to August 31.

Requirements

  • Professional-level language skills in English (active) with good knowledge of French (passive).
  • Master’s degree in Translation, Translation Studies, English or a closely related field, membership in a recognized association or order of professional writers, editors or translators, and/or equivalent academic and professional experience.
  • Extensive professional experience in English writing, preferably in Canada.
  • Good knowledge of common issues arising from language interference in a French-English bilingual environment, and strategies for correcting them.
  • Excellent knowledge of common text types and writing conventions in traditional and multimedia environments.

Nice To Haves

  • University-level teaching experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver lectures and manage classroom activities and assessments mainly in English, occasionally in French.
  • Build and maintain a site for the course in the university’s learning management system.
  • Present characteristics and conventions of effective writing for various text types and contexts.
  • Present writing and editing techniques and processes.
  • Integrate essential resources for writers, including style guides.
  • Provide detailed feedback and suggestions in writing exercises and assessments to help students develop writing and critical thinking skills.
  • Integrate discussions of and/or exercises with appropriate technological tools in the course content, with reference to selected technologies and resources provided by the School.
  • Coordinate with the Chair/Program Coordinator and colleagues to maintain program learning outcomes and coherence, while maintaining academic freedom.
