About The Position

This posting is for a Regular Part-Time Professor position for the course "Compétences des juristes III : Introduction au règlement des différends" (Course Code: DRC3500, Section: FF00) during the 2027 Winter Semester. The position is within the Section de droit civil / Civil Law Section at the University of Ottawa. The course, described as an applied teaching seminar, focuses on mediation and advocacy, as well as legal practice and ethics. It involves methodology courses, active participation in seminars, practical exercises, drafting legal briefs, and presenting arguments. The ethical component covers the duties of a legal practitioner towards the public, clients, the administration of justice, and the profession, alongside essential soft skills for consultation and representation, and ethical considerations related to information and communication technologies in legal practice. The language of instruction is French, and the expected enrolment is 24 students.

Requirements

An acceptable level of education and/or experience could be viewed as being equivalent to the educational required and/or demonstrated experience.

Responsibilities

Teach the Mediation Seminar, including methodology, active participation in mediation seminar work, and mediation exercises.
Teach the Advocacy Seminar, including methodology, drafting a brief, and presenting an argument.
Instruct on Legal Practice and Ethics, covering the duties of a legal practitioner towards the public, clients, the administration of justice, and the profession.
Develop savoir-être (soft skills) in consultation and representation, including listening skills, effective communication, managing emotions in legal practice, and collaboration with other professionals.
Address ethical and deontological issues arising from the use of information and communication technologies in legal practice.
