About The Position

This is a Regular Part-Time Professor position for the 2027 Winter Semester in the Civil Law Section at the University of Ottawa. The course, "Enseignement appliqué III : Séminaire d'exposé juridique" (DRC3500 HH00), focuses on legal skills, dispute resolution, and ethics. It includes a mediation seminar with active participation and exercises, a pleading seminar involving memo writing and presentation, and a section on legal practice and ethics covering duties to the public, clients, justice administration, and the profession. The role also emphasizes soft skills such as active listening, effective communication, managing emotions in practice, and collaboration, as well as ethical issues related to information and communication technologies in law. The course is taught in French, has 3 credits, and requires 39 work hours. The expected enrollment is 24 students. Requirements

  • Knowledge of mediation seminar methodology, active participation in mediation seminar work, and mediation exercises.
  • Knowledge of pleading seminar methodology, memo writing, and pleading presentation.
  • Understanding of legal practice and ethics, including duties towards the public, clients, justice administration, and the profession.
  • Proficiency in soft skills for consultation and representation (active listening, effective communication, managing emotions in legal practice, collaboration with other professionals).
  • Awareness of ethical and deontological issues arising from the use of information and communication technologies in legal practice.
  • An acceptable level of education and/or experience could be viewed as being equivalent to the educational required and/or demonstrated experience.
  • Competence in French (language of instruction).

Responsibilities

  • Deliver the "Séminaire de médiation" course, including methodology and mediation exercises.
  • Facilitate active participation in the mediation seminar.
  • Deliver the "Séminaire de plaidoirie" course, including methodology, memo writing, and pleading presentations.
  • Teach on the practice of law and ethics, covering duties to the public, clients, justice administration, and the profession.
  • Instruct on soft skills for consultation and representation (active listening, effective communication, managing emotions in legal practice, collaboration with other professionals).
  • Address ethical and deontological issues related to the use of information and communication technologies in legal practice.
