About The Position

This position is for a Regular Part-Time Professor in the Civil Law Section at the University of Ottawa for the 2027 Winter Semester. The course, DRC3500-II00 - Compétences des juristes III : Introduction au règlement des différends, focuses on applied teaching and a legal presentation seminar. The curriculum includes a mediation seminar covering methodology, active participation, and mediation exercises. It also features a pleading seminar with methodology, brief drafting, and plea presentation. Furthermore, the course delves into legal practice and ethics, addressing the duties of legal practitioners towards the public, clients, the administration of justice, and the profession. It emphasizes interpersonal skills in consultation and representation, such as listening, effective communication, managing emotions in legal practice, and collaborating with other professionals. Ethical and deontological issues related to information and communication technologies in legal practice are also covered. Requirements

  • Séminaire de médiation : Cours de méthodologie; participation active aux travaux d’un séminaire de médiation; exercices de médiation.
  • Séminaire de plaidoirie : cours de méthodologie, rédaction d’un mémoire; présentation d’une plaidoirie.
  • Pratique du droit et éthique : devoirs du praticien du droit envers le public, son client, l’administration de la justice et la profession.
  • Savoir-être en consultation et en représentation (capacité d’écoute; communication efficace; pratique du droit et émotions; collaboration avec d’autres professionnels).
  • Enjeux éthiques et déontologiques découlant de l’utilisation des technologies de l’information et des communications dans la pratique du droit.

  • Passive competence in a second language (English, given French is the language of instruction).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct a mediation seminar, including methodology, active participation in seminar work, and mediation exercises.
