About The Position

This is a Regular Part-Time Professor position for the 2027 Winter Semester in the Civil Law Section at Fauteux Hall. The course, titled 'Enseignement appliqué III : Séminaire d'exposé juridique' (Course Code: DRC3500, Section: JJ00), focuses on the competencies of jurists, specifically an introduction to dispute resolution. The seminar covers mediation methodology, active participation in mediation exercises, and advocacy methodology including memo writing and presentation. It also delves into legal practice and ethics, addressing the duties of legal practitioners towards the public, clients, the administration of justice, and the profession. Furthermore, the course emphasizes soft skills in consultation and representation, such as active listening, effective communication, managing emotions in legal practice, and collaborating with other professionals. Ethical and deontological issues arising from the use of information and communication technologies in legal practice are also explored.

Requirements

  • Expertise in mediation seminar methodology, active participation, and exercises.
  • Expertise in advocacy seminar methodology, memo writing, and presentation.
  • Knowledge of legal practice and ethics, including duties of the legal practitioner towards the public, their client, the administration of justice, and the profession.
  • Proficiency in soft skills for consultation and representation (listening capacity, effective communication, legal practice and emotions, collaboration with other professionals).
  • Understanding of ethical and deontological issues arising from the use of information and communication technologies in legal practice.
  • Passive competence in a second language.

Responsibilities

  • Teach mediation seminar methodology, facilitate active participation in mediation seminars, and conduct mediation exercises.
  • Teach advocacy seminar methodology, guide students in drafting legal memoranda, and oversee advocacy presentations.
  • Instruct on legal practice and ethics, covering the duties of legal practitioners towards the public, clients, the administration of justice, and the profession.
  • Develop students' soft skills in consultation and representation, including active listening, effective communication, managing emotions in legal practice, and collaboration with other professionals.
  • Address ethical and deontological issues stemming from the use of information and communication technologies in legal practice.
