About The Position
This course explores the modern history of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) since the First World War in a seminar format, with particular attention to the region’s complex relationship with international institutions and geopolitics. Often credited as a cradle of civilisation, the MENA region sits at a geopolitical crossroads that has been critical to the evolution of the modern world, including decolonisation, Western intervention, the development of international institutions, cheap energy reserves, and contestations between various secular and religious identities. The region’s modern history illuminates key moments in the development of the international system itself.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in a relevant field.
- Comprehensive exam completed in a relevant field.
- Competence in a second language (passive).

- An acceptable level of education and/or experience could be viewed as being equivalent to the educational required and/or demonstrated experience.
Responsibilities
- Teach Seminar in the History of the Middle East and North Africa: The Modern Middle East and International Order (HIS4192-C00) during the 2027 Winter Semester.
- Deliver instruction in English.
- Conduct the course in person.
- Prepare and deliver lectures and facilitate seminar discussions.
- Assess student learning through assignments, exams, and other methods.
- Provide feedback to students on their academic progress.
- Hold office hours for students.
- Contribute to the academic life of the Department of History and the Faculty of Arts.
