About The Position

This posting is for a Regular Part-Time Professor to teach Introduction to Animal Studies I (AHL2110, Section A00) during the 2026 Fall Semester. The course will cover the emerging field of animal studies, including its historical and philosophical scope, representations in arts and literature, companion animals, animals and sciences, advocacy, and human-non-human animal relations. The course will be delivered in English via web conference on Thursdays from 14:30 to 17:30.

Requirements

  • Introduction to the emerging field of animal studies.
  • Overview introduction to cornerstone topics.
  • Historical and philosophical scope of animal studies.
  • Animal representations in the arts and literature.
  • Companion animals.
  • Animals and sciences.
  • Advocacy and animals.
  • Human and non-human animal relations.
  • An acceptable level of education and/or experience could be viewed as being equivalent to the educational required and/or demonstrated experience.
  • Ability to complete all mandatory legislated training.

Nice To Haves

  • Competence in a second language (N/A for this posting).

Responsibilities

  • Teach Introduction to Animal Studies I (AHL2110, Section A00).
  • Deliver course content via web conference.
  • Engage with an expected enrolment of 100 students.
  • Adhere to the requirements of the APTPUO collective agreements.
  • Complete all mandatory legislated training as required by provincial law.
