About The Position

The University of Ottawa is seeking a Regular Part-Time Professor for the course DVM 3570 Raisonnement quantitatif en développement international (Quantitative Reasoning in International Development) for the 2027 Winter Semester. This course introduces students to the use of data and basic statistical analysis in international development. It covers data overview, sources, and basic quantitative measures of development, including ratios, percentages, indices (like the Human Development Index), measures of national income, inequality, poverty, and indicators related to demographics, health, education, and the environment. The course also introduces descriptive statistics, basic inferential statistics, and fundamental data visualization techniques, primarily using Excel. The course is a lecture format and will be delivered in person.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in basic statistical functions of Excel
  • Familiarity with data sources related to development (national and survey-level)
  • Understanding of debates surrounding national income indicators, poverty, and inequality
  • Ability to teach Quantitative Reasoning in International Development
