About The Position

The Registration Specialist facilitates patient flow from the point of entry to the appropriate destination in a timely, accurate, and professional manner. The role gathers information needed to create accurate financial and demographic records that support reimbursement and clinical outcomes. Duties include scheduling appointments, interviewing patients to obtain medical information, explaining department and hospital charges and policies, validating and entering charges in the appropriate systems, collecting payments, and answering incoming calls and directing patients and visitors. In the Urology clinic, the specialist handles registration, patient check-in and check-out, copay collection, phone calls, and referrals.

This position is based at IU Health Urology in Muncie and is full-time, day shift, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with no nights, weekends, or holidays.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to learn and retain medical coding, including ICD-10.
• Basic proficiency in MS Office, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Nice To Haves

• Preferred medical office experience.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the AHA preferred.
• One to two years of relevant experience in a health care setting preferred.
• CPT coding experience preferred.
• Ability to interpret insurance information preferred.
• Knowledge of clinical practices and medical terminology preferred.

Responsibilities

• Validate and enter charges into appropriate systems.
• Collect necessary payments, including copayments.

• Register patients in the Urology clinic and handle check-in and check-out.
• Process referrals.
