About The Position

The Registration Specialist facilitates patient flow from point of entry to destination in a timely, accurate, and professional manner. The role obtains information needed to create accurate financial and demographic patient records to support reimbursement and clinical outcomes. Duties include scheduling appointments, interviewing patients to obtain medical information, explaining department and hospital charges and policies, validating and entering charges into appropriate systems, and collecting payments. The specialist answers incoming calls and directs patients and visitors appropriately.

This position is based at IU Health Urology in Muncie, Indiana. The stated hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with no nights, weekends, or holidays.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to learn and retain medical coding, including ICD-10.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Nice To Haves

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the AHA.
• One to two years of relevant experience in a health care setting.
• Medical office experience.
• CPT coding experience.
• Ability to interpret insurance information.
• Knowledge of clinical practices and medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Register patients in the Urology clinic.
• Check patients in and out.
• Collect copayments.
• Handle phone calls.
• Facilitate referrals.
• Schedule appointments and interview patients for appropriate medical information.
• Explain department and hospital charges and policies.
• Validate and enter charges into appropriate systems.
• Answer incoming calls and direct patients and visitors appropriately.
