The Tasmanian Health Service (THS) is seeking applications for Registrar vacancies within the Tasmanian Anaesthetic Training Program (TATP) for 2027. The TATP is a statewide program offering anaesthesia training across three THS hospitals, accommodating approximately 35-40 positions annually, including provisional fellowship roles. The program emphasizes clinical experience, teaching, training progression, collegiality, and support for all trainees, including anaesthetic registrars, provisional fellows, ICU trainees, and Rural Generalist Anaesthesia (RGA) trainees. The TATP operates under the jurisdiction of the Department of Health, Tasmania, and the ANZCA Tasmanian Regional Committee. RGA training is available at all three Tasmanian sites with experienced supervisors and relevant clinical experience. Appointment of RGA trainees is contingent on applicant suitability and the overall balance of anaesthetic trainees statewide. Successful RGA candidates are encouraged to have a strong career path in regional, rural, and remote settings. Specific requirements for RGA trainees include registration with RACGP or ACRRM (or fellowship completion), at least two years of primary fellowship training if still in training, and an accredited ALS 2 course completed within 52 weeks prior to commencing RGA training. The TATP selection process is holistic, with scores based on Curriculum Vitae (~30%), selection criteria responses (~30%), interview performance (~30%), and general impression (~10%). References and self-reflection are used to support a wholistic assessment but are not scored. Shortlisting for interviews is based on the written application, CV, and selection criteria. Applicants are advised to be thorough, honest, and relevant in their applications. Successful candidates must be ready to commence on February 1, 2027, ensuring all necessary travel, visa, AHPRA registration, and quarantine requirements are met by this date. Applications are submitted online via a single form coordinated by the TATP. Supporting documents include a CV, selection criteria responses (250-word limit per statement), two referee contacts, a covering letter, and qualification certificates. All eligible applications are considered through a transparent, competitive process. Rotational positions may become available for eligible hospital-based Trainees. Further information can be found on the THS Careers webpage for the Tasmanian Anaesthetic Training Program.
