About The Position

The Neurology Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) is empowered and responsible to act as a highly-trained RVT on the clinical floor to set an example of patient care, client care, and teamwork at Pulse Veterinary Specialists & Emergency. The Neurology RVT will report to the Lead Specialty RVT and work closely with Dr. Smith to deliver high level patient care. The ideal candidate values maintaining a collegial working culture and prioritizes embracing the strategy, commitments, and goals of the organization to deliver high standards of medicine and exceptional patient care. This role will allow for a compressed work week with four 10-hour shifts, Monday through Thursday.

Requirements

  • Animal Health Technology college diploma or equivalent
  • Registered member of the RVTTC (or equivalent provincial body)
  • Experience in the care and management of anesthetized patients
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Proven active listening and problem-solving abilities
  • Understands how to communicate difficult/sensitive information
  • Strong time management and organizational skills including the abilities to plan, coordinate, multitask and prioritize.
  • Genuine interest and initiative to help Pulse be the best practice it can be
  • Strong initiative and desire to be an integral key player in the growth and maturation of the specialty team.
  • Intrinsic desire to grow personally and professionally

Responsibilities

  • Performs all technical responsibilities of an RVT including:
  • Usage and care of medical equipment, as well as sterilization
  • Placing IV catheters; calculating drug doses, fluid requirements
  • Understanding and performing anesthesia, post-anesthetic recovery of patients
  • Use of anesthetic ventilator and multiparameter monitors
  • Acquire high quality MRI and radiographic images
  • Performing laboratory procedures
  • Collection and submission of various laboratory samples for analysis
  • Assisting in surgical procedures
  • Managing hospitalized patients, performing recovery care and additional specialized treatments
  • Substantial client communication is required
  • Obtaining patient history and transferring pertinent information into the medical record
  • Continuous follow-up with patients and clients due to the chronic disease nature of neurology
  • Help manage department schedule, including consults, rechecks and procedures
  • Provides education and home care instructions to clients
  • Maintains practice software including client and patient records
  • Follows all SOPs to support smooth hospital operations
  • Follows all federal and provincial animal health laws and regulations regarding workplace health and safety.
  • Option to participate in on-call rotation for out of hours emergencies
  • Openly and proactively communicates updates to DVMs, Lead Specialty RVT and other department team members
  • Prioritize interdepartmental synergy by maintaining open lines of communication with other departments.
  • Other duties may be assigned as required.
