About The Position
San Diego Humane Society is hiring Registered Veterinary Technicians for its Escondido Medical team. The role supports the organization’s “Staying at Zero” strategic initiatives and provides high-quality care and assistance to veterinarians in diagnosing, treating, and managing animal patients. The position delivers service at the gold standard level in alignment with the SDHS Way, meeting the needs of animals and the people who love them through compassion, creative solutions, personalized care, and connection. Eligible candidates receive a $1,000 sign-on bonus. The position is based at the Escondido Campus. Full-time positions follow a 4/10 alternative work schedule; part-time opportunities may also be available, working approximately 20 hours per week. The listed starting pay range is $26.60–$29.61 per hour. RVTs at the Escondido and Oceanside campuses receive a location premium, with a minimum hourly rate of $29.26. Actual starting pay depends on factors including relevant education and experience, internal pay equity, and position location.
Requirements
- California Registered Veterinary Technician licensure is required.
- At least one year of clinical and/or shelter experience in a veterinary environment is required.
Responsibilities
- Administer treatments and procedures, and prepare and administer anesthetics.
- Assist staff veterinarians with examinations and procedures, and monitor animals before, during, and after surgery.
- Perform emergency procedures within the scope of a licensed RVT, as instructed by a staff veterinarian.
- Support training of new RVTs and veterinary assistants, as well as animal services staff, volunteers, and interns.
